What would you be if you weren’t a librarian?
If I weren’t leading the fascinating life of a librarian I would love to live the glamourous life of a meteorologist. I love weather! There is nothing better than a great storm!
What are you reading right now (professional or personal)? What is it about?
Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry. It’s a young adult dystopian novel. I recently reread The Giver with my children for a school assignment and then finally picked up Gathering Blue as the companion novel.
What are your research interests?
I am currently working with Emma Popowich (University of Manitoba Library) on a research project surveying autistic library employees in Canadian academic libraries. If we want to be truly inclusive spaces we need to understand more about neurodiversity and how to support our neurodiverse colleagues.
Have you attended any conferences recently? Which was your favourite and why?
I haven’t attended any in-person conferences since Covid but I am eager to get back as I find the energy of being amongst colleagues is not matched in a virtual space (though it is a great option for many reasons and people). Having said that, at UML we get a group conferences rate for the Access Services Conference and book rooms so we can attend virtual sessions together and discuss ideas that come up. It’s a great experience to gather as colleagues.
