We’re pleased to announce that the well-known Evidence Synthesis Institute, which is a US Institute of Museum and Library Services-supported program geared towards providing training on evidence synthesis, will be offered for the first time in Canada to accommodate demand from Canadian applicants! The Institute is aimed at library staff supporting evidence syntheses in topics outside of the health sciences and will cover:
• overview of systematic reviews and similar methodologies,
• guidelines and standards,
• search strategy development,
• software tools,
• quality assessment, and
• systematic review services.
Applicants should anticipate addressing the following questions in their application:
• Why is this training relevant to your current work or career development?
• How will you use specialized evidence synthesis skills in your job?
• How do you anticipate sharing what you learn at this workshop with colleagues, researchers, and/or students?
We are able to accept 50 participants in this Institute. Applications will be screened and prioritized based on current employment in a library/research setting, urgency of need, existing knowledge gap, disciplines supported by applicant, and potential impact of training. Applicants supporting non-health sciences disciplines will be prioritized but will consider health sciences applicants if there are spots available.
This Canadian version of the Institute has been generously funded by the University of Victoria Libraries, so the Institute will involve no charge for accepted applicants. CAPAL’s Research and Scholarship Committee is providing support to the Institute under the leadership of Zahra Premji from the University of Victoria and in collaboration with Amy Riegelman and Megan Kocher from the University of Minnesota.
The Institute is planned to run virtually from October 3-6, 2022. On the days noted, the Institute will run from 12-5pm ET / 9am-2pm PT. The application period to participate will begin at the beginning of July and successful applicants will be notified by mid-August. Further details on how to apply will be forthcoming in approximately one month.
If you have any questions about the Institute, please reach out to Zahra Premji (zahrapremji@uvic.ca).
