Volunteer at CAPAL19 in Vancouver June 2-4, 2019

We are seeking volunteers to help with the Canadian Association of Professional Academic Librarians (CAPAL) annual conference on June 2-4, 2019! This conference is held as part of the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences 2019 at the University of British Columbia on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓ əm (Musqueam) people. In keeping with the Congress 2019 theme, Circles of Conversation, the theme of CAPAL19 is Politics of Conversation: Identity, Community, and Communication. For more information, please visit the CAPAL Conference website https://conference.capalibrarians.org/main.

This is a great opportunity for students and new graduates in library and information programs (eg. MLIS, MLIS/MAS Dual, Library Technician Diploma) to join in on conversations about the social, political, and economic environments in which academic librarians navigate; learn about current research in the academic librarianship; and make connections with others in the library community.

Details:

In working with Volunteer Coordinator and Local Arrangement Coordinator, volunteers will be responsible for: Setting up rooms and signage, greeting and directing attendees, registration, receiving caterers, and/ or convening sessions. Guidelines for convenors will be provided in advance.

Volunteer roles are open to current students and recent graduates (May 2019) who are able to commit 3 to 4 hours during the 3-day conference (8:00 am – 5:00pm). Each shift will be 1 to 2 hours. Scheduling and preferences for volunteer activities will be accommodated as best as possible.

This year, CAPAL is able to reward two volunteers with free Congress and CAPAL19 registration

Two volunteers will be drawn from the pool of volunteers on March 25. This draw is open to CAPAL19 volunteers who have not already registered for Congress.

We unfortunately cannot refund Congress registration fees to volunteers who have already registered. Only CAPAL19 registration fees will be reimbursed.

Information on the registration process can be found at: https://www.congress2019.ca/register

To register for CAPAL2019, you begin by registering for Congress, then add CAPAL #304 in Section 3 of the registration form.
