CAPAL 2018: Community, Diversity and Education: Academic Librarianship in Challenging Times

University of Regina, Saskatchewan May 29 – 30, 2018

 

The Canadian Association of Professional Academic Librarians (CAPAL) is pleased to accept applications for the CAPAL Bursary for Student Conference Attendance. This bursary was established in 2016 to promote the continued growth of professional academic librarianship in Canada.

 

The bursary supports the attendance of one LIS student, or recent LIS graduate, at CAPAL’s annual conference, which takes place in conjunction with the national Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences.

 

This single bursary is in the amount of $250.00, plus the cost of both Congress and CAPAL conference fees ($500.00 total approximate value). Bursary applications will be adjudicated by the CAPAL Research & Scholarship Committee.

 

Eligibility

To be eligible for this bursary, you must:

  • be a CAPAL student member in good standing
  • not have received this award in the past
  • at the time of the call for applications,
    • be enrolled in an ALA-accredited graduate degree program in library and information science or equivalent

OR

  • have completed coursework for such a program within the last four months

 

Criteria

Bursary recipient selection will be based on the following:

  • financial need
  • interest in and understanding of the conference topic
  • goals for conference attendance
  • contributions to CAPAL, if applicable (for example, work with student chapter, leadership, )

 

Application

To apply for this bursary, you must submit:

  • a cover letter including:
    • a clearly outlined statement of financial need (Please do not send financial )
    • goals for conference attendance
    • a description of involvement with CAPAL (if applicable)
    • name of LIS school, and the estimated date of completion of LIS course-work OR actual date of completion
  • a 500-word paper discussing interest in and understanding of the conference topic
  • a resume

 

Follow-Up Requirements

Within two weeks of the end of the conference, the successful applicant will be required to submit:

  • a 500-600 word conference reflection for publication on the CAPAL website and/or newsletter two weeks from the end of the conference
  • receipts demonstrating the use of bursary funds for conference attendance
